To travel worry-free, it is best to buy a travel insurance before you hop onto a plane. But sourcing for an affordable policy can be time consuming especially when you need to compare the benefit limits of each travel insurance. Singapore has many travel insurance plans, thus this makes the comparison even more tedious.

3 Factors to Decide on the Best Travel Insurance Plan

So, I always adhere to the following three principles to decide the best insurance for my travel plans:

1) Destinations that are expensive, thus, medical costs is deemed to be expensive too when I require any medical assistance there. A good example will be Japan and USA.

2) Destinations that I am likely to be involved in some active activities like hiking, white-water rafting and etc, having a travel insurance plan will definitely help to ease some unnecessary worries.

3) Destinations that are highly probable of losing or delaying baggage or theft, a travel insurance that compensates for losing of personal belongings definitely helps to melt off some annoyance when such nasty thing happens.

Are there any travel insurance company that provide travel insurance that include insurance coverage for professional photographic equipment ?

    • Hi, I can’t speak for other companies – for ourselves DirectAsia.com doesn’t have a specific coverage for professional photographic equipment (or related equipment such as golf or cycling, etc) at the moment. All such items are covered under the personal possessions coverage under the travel insurance product. Policy limits are $1k, $2k and $5k accordingly to the plans chosen. I hope that’s helpful, and wish you well with finding the cover you need.

The DBS Travel Shield policies underwritten by MSIG are heavily promoted and discounted but are full of caveats around the medical and activities you can and cannot claim under. beware of this product. For all the advertising regarding adventure sports cover you will find many popular activities are not covered. The advertising is false. Their exclusions for some medical conditions is stringent and the general exclusion for anything related to pregnancy taken to the letter. we found out we were pregnant while travelling and needed to change our flights. they would not assist. brutal. avoid this product they are doing their best to not pay out on legitimate claims and take advantage of trusting consumers
