Khao San Hotels & Hostels
Khao San Road has developed into travellers’ Mecca, attracting backpackers in search of cheap digs and also holiday makers from all walks of life as new, top-end hotels open up in the area. There are numerous options for hotel and hostel for all price ranges but the quality of the accommodation, particularly at the budget end, varies hugely so it is always worth asking to see the room before you check in.
Cheap Bangkok Guesthouse Accommodation
It is advisable to book accommodation either set back from Khao San Road or in one of the neighbouring streets as the main road can be rather noisy late in the night. For example, a number of budget guesthouses on Chakrabongse Road, at the Western end of Khao San Road including Rainbow Guesthouse, has some of the cheapest rooms in the area.
Leading off behind Wat Chana Songkram, also on the Western end of Khao San Road, is the quieter Soi Rambuttri which is home to a number of guesthouses and restaurants, as well as some great street food establishments and souvenir stalls. Lastly, parallel to Khao San Road is the slightly calmer Rambuttri Road where you can find great budget accommodation options such as Green House.
Rooms in hostels start from around 150 Baht per night, although at this price you will most likely be in a dormitory, with fan rather than air-conditioning and will be sharing a bathroom with a number of other people. Despite these drawbacks, rooms such as these are much sought after as they provide a cheap and easy way to meet like-minded people, and have fun.
Khao San Hotels
For those with a bit more to spend there are mid-range and top-end hotels opening in the area, many of them with swimming pools. Phra Athit Road is the best place to search for hotels of this standard, overlooking the Chao Praya river it makes an excellent location to unwind after days spent exploring Bangkok.
New Siam Riverside is an excellent choice on Phra Athit Road while Khaosan Palace Inn is one of the most well known mid-range hotels on Khao San Road. Lastly, for those wanting to splurge Viengtai Hotel and Sakul House, both on Soi Rambuttri, are two excellent, hight-class hotels. When considering the expense of this higher class accommodation, mid-range hotels can cost anything from 500 to 2000 Baht per night while the sky’s the limit for top-end accommodation!
