When coupled with the location which is near to the Mongkok MTR station and bang in the middle of the shopping district, the Harbour Hotel is definitely a good hotel choice if you are in Hong Kong for a short period of time.
Of course, the amenities provided by the hotel are no great shakes and for the price, the quality of service is just about right. When one takes into consideration that the Mongkok area in which the hotel is located is the most densely populated place on Earth, one cannot ask for more.
What I like about Harbour Hotel Hong Kong
What struck me in my stay at the hotel was the friendly and cooperative attitude of the hotel staff which more than made up for any other deficiencies which I encountered. One has to remember that this is a budget hotel and hence expecting rooms to be large is a bit foolish. However, the bathroom is quite good and the shower area is spacious which was surprising because the rooms as such are small.
I saved on the trip from the airport since I took the airport bus and got off at Nathan Road. From there it was a short taxi ride which cost me HKD40. So, apart from the room price that one saves, the transportation costs to and from the airport and other parts of the city are a huge plus for the hotel.
The internet access is through LAN and which works all the time. One has to ask for it at the reception who would help out with it.
What I dislike about Harbour Hotel Hong Kong
Since it is a budget hotel, one can encounter many shortcomings apart from the small rooms. The bed linen looked like it had not been changed and worse; one may encounter bed bugs as well. These are things that are inexcusable even for a budget hotel.
I admit that this might be an one-off experience as my second stay at the hotel was far more pleasant. A saving grace was the provision of 6 towels in the room that was certainly welcome to soothe my disappointment. It appears that the hotel is aware of some of these deficiencies and working towards making the experience pleasant.
