Royal Plaza Hotel Hong Kong

I was searching for a hotel with family rooms near Mongkok East station, Hong Kong and I found Royal Plaza Hotel through Agoda. Three reasons for choosing Royal Plaza Hotel Hong Kong – the family room is spacious enough to cater two double beds in a room; its convenient location (walking distance to famous Ladies Market) and the price of a family room cost US$213 suited my budget.

We didn’t find anything particularly lacking in the hotel facilities. In fact, we are overwhelmed by the dining options in the hotel and the eateries nearby the hotel. We reached the hotel fairly easy by taking the Airport shuttle service. For getting around for sightseeing, we usually took train from the Mongkok East MTR subway station situated directly underneath the Royal Plaza Hotel.

What I like about Royal Plaza Hotel Hong Kong

The rooms were kept clean and tidy. We loved the pool which was heated and had music piped in playing underneath the water and fancy designs. There was also a Jacuzzi, spa pool, gym and sauna. Loved the good quality toiletries and the little touches which make you feel special – like the slippers and free newspaper every morning.

It’s also convenient when a hotel has a coffee/tea station in the room. Some of the rooms even come with whole kitchenette units. I was happy that they took such care about security issues like having a staff to check our room number before letting us go into the lift in the night.

There are four restaurants in the hotel but I can only vouch for the breakfast which was ample, and the buffet in La Scala which was huge, varied and tasty. The rest of the time we ate out or in the adjacent shopping center.

What I dislike about Royal Plaza Hotel Hong Kong

Internet access is not free. Guest has to pay US$5 an hour to use the Internet which is quite pricy though the connection is good and fast. When you check-in at the reception, do ask for a room on the higher floors as they not only offer better views, they are also quieter than rooms on the lower floors where noise from the station next door could be heard.

How to Get to There

The hotel is located at 193 Prince Edward Road West in Kowloon, Hong Kong. If you are coming from the Hong Kong International airport, the most convenient way is to take Airport shuttle bus that cost HK$160 per person for a 75-min ride. Or, you can take the Airport Express to the Kowloon Station (20 mins) and take a 15-min ride of free shuttle bus from Kowloon Station to the hotel.

Transportation

Free Shuttle Bus Services – Hotel provides complimentary shuttle bus services to Tsim Sha Tsui and Kowloon Station running all day.

Train – MongKok East Train station is directly underneath the Royal Plaza Hotel and Mongkok MTR Station is about 10 minutes walkaway.

This is a great hotel for its location, affordable rates for family rooms and the facilities are top notch.
