The InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) is a large hotel group, with many different names under its umbrella, including the Intercontinental, Crowne Plaza and Holiday Inn.
Hotels under the IHG cater to a wide variety of travellers – the Holiday Inn chain is designed for families, with family-friendly amenities (think slides, baby pools) while Crowne Plaza and InterContinental are better suited for mature, executive and business travellers (luxurious and glamorous).
Regardless, all of the hotels have a high standard of service, comfort and are largely value-for-money.

Comfort
Rooms are mostly spacious, and decently fitted with amenities and toiletries. The showers at its Crowne Plaza chain are especially well-loved: hot and high pressure, they promise instant refreshment and reinvigoration.

Samui Baan Taling Ngam Resort
One of the newest luxury hotels in IHG’s group is the Samui Baan Taling Ngam, in Koh Samui. Its name means ‘home on a beautiful cliff’, and is an apt description of the resort, which overlooks the deep blue sea and is seconds away from a private golden, sandy beach.
The resort is a series of beachfront villas, each fitted with private plunge pools, and is easily accessible to nearby attractions, such as the famous Five Islands and Angthong National Park.
Dining at the Samui Baan Taling Ngam might seem like a modest affair, with just 2 restaurants, Amber and Flames. However, they promise to cook up a storm, with flavours ranging from Western cuisine to local Samui food.
Rates begin at $300 per night with complimentary breakfast and free Wi-Fi.
InterContinental Osaka
Nestled in the heart of this charming Japanese city, the InterContinental Osaka features 272 rooms and a good choice for business travellers. Located minutes from the city’s financial and economic district, the hotel has at least five meeting rooms and a business support service.
It also offers a comprehensive wellness package, with a 24-hour gym and a spa providing a host of treatments, including body massages, facials and wraps. Noka, the restaurant at the hotel, however, is nothing to rave about – you’re better off eating in one of the many top restaurants in the vicinity.
Rates begin at $250 per night with complimentary breakfast for two and free Wi-Fi.
