The best way to get a glimpse of Mount Fuji is to stay at a hotel near the Fuji Five Lakes (Fujigoko) – mainly, Saiko, Lake Shoji, Lake Kawaguchiko, Lake Mototsu and Lake Yamanaka. I am a big fan of Mount Fuji and had stayed in different ryokans and hotels near these Fuji Five Lakes. I particularly like this hotel that offers spectacular view of Mount Fuji, from the hotel room to the private outdoor bath – Yamadaya Hotel.
Yamadaya Hotel near Lake Shoji
Yamadaya hotel is located very near Lake Shoji – the smallest of the Fuji five lakes. It is an ideal place to view Mount Fuji, either from the hotel rooms or take a stroll at the Lake Shoji. My favorite place is to watch it from the private outdoor bath that almost guarantees great views of Mount Fuji (when the sky is clear). The hotel also offers excellent Japanese cuisine that simply whet your appetite.
I stayed at Yamadaya Hotel for two days and was overwhelmed by the delicious meals, particularly the Kaiseki Ryori (懐石料理) – a traditional multi-course Japanese dinner. Every single dish is tasty, even a simple pickle or a yume (sour prune) tastes fresh and appetizing. The young lady owner was very helpful and attentive to our needs. When she noticed I drank a lot of water, she would place a fully-filled water container on our dinning table so that I could replenish my water bottle as and when I like.
Hotel with Mount Fuji View
The best place to view the Mount Fuji is at the private outdoor baths. There are two private outdoor baths but I prefer the one called 满月. Every customer can use the private bath twice a day through reservation at the reception front. Soaking in the steamy onsen water and gazing at the mighty Mount Fuji, I’m happy to strike off one of the items listed on my bucket list.
You can book the hotel through Rakuten. A Japanese room with two meals (dinner and breakfast) start from 19,000yen for two persons. You can choose to pay at the hotel or pay through your credit card online.

Price & How to get there
Prices start from 9500yen per pax per night, inclusive of two meals, for a Japanese room. Take a Motosuko bound bus (1110yen per pax) from Kawaguchiko Station and alight right in front of Yamadaya Hotel (Yamadaya Hotel Mae Bus Stop). As the bus service is not very frequent, do go to Kawaguchiko Station to check out the bus timings or you may just take a 15-min taxi ride there.
